Packing for a move, whether local, across the U.S., or international, is a task often accompanied by anxiety, frustration, and sometimes, outright panic. The two most important packing tips we can share with you are conceptual, not operational. The first thing to do is to make a decision about what you will pack on your own and what you will delegate to Meyer's professional packers. We strongly recommend that you leave your big items for us. And our experience has proven that it's a good idea to let us do most of your packing. It's what we do for a living, we know the proven methods for keeping items safe.
Meyer's professional packers gently wrap and pack your possessions in cartons and shipping crates designed for safety. Depending on the size of your shipment and its destination, your household or office goods will be shipped in a lift-van, a steamship container, or an air container. The wooden or plywood containers for large shipments are lined with water-resistant paper and caulked to prevent leakage. Smaller shipments are packed in triple-layer corrugated cardboard containers. Our second packing tip is that you should decide in advance what items you will or will not move. Moving can be a great opportunity to clear your clutter, and make space for new things in your life. Take a look at what you own, and decide what must move with you, and what can be discarded. Then, a list with three columns will help: items for Meyer's to move, items you'll move by yourself, and items to discard. To prepare ahead for the unpacking process, make sure that the last items loaded on Meyer's trucks are the first ones you will want unloaded. Put "Load Last" stickers on these items, the things that you will need to use as soon as you get to your new home. "Fragile" stickers should be placed on items that need special care. |

We recommend that you carry certain items with you. Place "Do Not Load" stickers on all the things you will personally take with you. These will include a document holder with wills, stock certificates, and other one-of-a-kind items that are difficult or impossible to replace. You should carry valuable jewelry with you. And finally, a "trip kit" for moving day is a good idea. This kit should contain the things you'll need while your belongings are in transit. Now, relax and enjoy.
