By choosing Meyer's Moving and Storage, a New York moving company, you are already well on your way to an easy, stress-free move. We are here to help you with every phase of the moving process, and to make your move a pleasant experience. In that interest, we would like to share a few moving tips with you that we have learned as a result of our decades of experience as residential and commercial movers.
Timing and planning are the key components to a successful relocation. The first or last few days of the month tend to be the busiest moving times. If possible, choose other moving dates, and also check that your moving date does not coincide with any local holidays.
Many people and places will need to be notified that you are relocating. Make a list and begin notifying a few people and places every day, well in advance of your moving day. Advise your physician and dentist of your move, and ask for recommendations for counterparts at your destination. Change your address using the United States Postal Service website, and contact any clubs or associations where you are affiliated.
For a smooth transition of your financial affairs, before departure discuss your upcoming relocation with all your bank and finance companies. Open a bank account at a your new destination, and consider that using a bank with branches at your origin and destination may be advantageous. Contact your insurance agent to transfer property, fire, auto, and medical insurance. And make sure to clear out your safety deposit box.
Since you will want to have your utilities still connected on moving day, arrange to have them disconnected from your present home after your scheduled move-out. Call ahead to have utilities connected at your new home the day before or the day of your scheduled move-in. Make sure your phone is connected
On moving day, be on hand when the Meyer's movers arrive. It's important that an authorized adult be present to take your place if you are called away at any time while our movers are there. When the van operator arrives, review all details and paperwork. Accompany the driver as he or she inspects, and tags each piece of furniture with an identifying number. These numbers, along with a detailed description of your goods and their condition at the time of loading, will appear on the inventory. It is your responsibility to see that all of your goods are loaded. It's a good idea to review your floor plan so you can tell the movers where to place your furniture and appliances. Plan to be available to direct them as they unload.
Confirm the delivery date and time at your new address. Write directions to your new home for the van operator, provide the new phone number, and include phone numbers where you can be reached in transit. Make sure to take along the destination agent's name, address, and telephone number.
